The National Research and Training Center on Blindness and
Low Vision at Mississippi State University is pleased to inform you that
applications for the next class of Vision Specialists are open. The Vision
Specialist in Vocational Rehabilitation graduate certificate program
consists of four graduate courses designed to provide specialized training
to vocational rehabilitation counselors and vision rehabilitation
professionals to become more effective in their work with consumers who are
blind or visually impaired. The rigorous master’s level curriculum is
infused with evidence-based research findings and practical applications.

The program is totally online. The program takes one year, starting in
January and concluding in December. The first foundation course,
Rehabilitation of persons who are visually impaired is offered in the
January-April term, Assistive Technology/Sensory Aids is offered in the
summer June-July, and the final two courses, Resources for persons who are
visually impaired and the special project practicum courses are offered in
the fall term, August through December. These must be taken in order as
they build on each other.

The program is designed for working professionals who need additional
training to enhance their effectiveness and hopefully improve employment
and independence outcomes for persons who are blind or visually impaired.

Those interested in attending the program can find more information through
the Vision Specialist web site at www.distance.msstate.edu/vision/

The Vision Specialist program is sponsored by the Rehabilitation Services
Administration through a long-term training grant. Approximately 12
students will be awarded stipends; however, the program is open for
tuition-based participation. Priorities for stipends will be given to
practicing vocational rehabilitation counselors working in a state VR
agency. Tuition is approximately $8500.00 for those not awarded a stipend.
Space is limited.

Please consider sharing this notice with your counselors and direct service
providers.

Thank you.
