[Rehab] Electronic signatures and AWARE database

Good morning, everyone:

Alliance is hosting the GetAwareLive conference throughout October. They will have two sessions on electronic signatures with Aware - (1) DocuSign and (2) AwareSign. Hopefully, your agencies Aware managers will attend those sessions to provide feedback to leadership on policy guiding collecting electronic signatures.

I have transitioned to using Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer to navigate Aware. There are slight differences in how Aware behaves in each browser. I've been using Aware with IE since 2009, and so I'm allowing myself some grace with the frustrations of navigating the Aware environment with Edge.

Deborah,

Yes! Screen reader users are experiencing the errors in Aware mentioned in your message. Please make sure your IT department creates a ticket with Alliance, each time the errors occur. We've been experiencing the errors for approximately a year. When our I.T. and I speak with Alliance technicians, they advise us that no one else has alerted them to the errors. As you know, a VR Counselor or others working in Aware can lose hours of time recreating case management documents when Aware doesn't save. I'm sure you've figured it out, but I instruct my VRCs to create all documents in Word and then transfer to Aware. Hopefully, Alliance will get to the root of the software errors soon.

Thank you,

Hi Listers,

I am a rehabilitation counselor in Maryland. I am writing with two
questions. First, have any of you worked out how you will create and use
electronic signatures? Font signatures are not acceptable in my agency. We
have new rules put in place since COVID that require electronic signatures.
Second, do any of you use AWARE as your case management system? I know that
Alliance is not going to support Internet Explorer (which is what we are
still using) after November. Several JAWS users are going to be testing
various browsers in a couple of weeks to see which one we will switch to. I
am wondering what browsers you are using, and some of the pitfalls and
advantages you are encountering with various browsers. I look forward to
your responses. Thanks in advance for your help.

We use aware and use Internet explorer. They have not yet told us that Internet explorer will not be supported any longer. I did try using aware with Chrome, but the pop-up messages that you have to click OK on as you move through the case or not read. I have not tried Microsoft edge yet.

Hello,
I am a VRC with a general caseload in Idaho. I have been using Aware for seven years.
This year it seems to have more glitches than usual. I am currently using it with Chrome.

Internet explorer does not seem to resolve the glitches. We have not implemented the version with electronic signatures yet.

There can be tricky legal considerations with electronic signatures, especially with releases. I am curious to know how that has been resolved.

Some of the issues I have encountered have been difficulty getting A case note to save after entering finish, difficulty reading some case notes even though text is in the case note, and difficulty reading PDFs that are generated in Aware. I have more trouble with reading and PDFs in the attachments than I used to in earlier versions, too.

I use Jaws, and I have the most current version. I have also changed settings in JAWS, Adobe, and aware as suggested. Thank you for bringing up this topicG

I've heard of an electric pad.

It allows you to do electronic signatures, I was told.

One thing you might try is going back to a previous version of JAWS if you had better luck with that rather than the current version.
