Riverside San Bernardino Chapter Minutes for March 12, 2022
Meeting started at 10:10 AM.
Recited Pledge: Led by Tippy.
Roll call: Tippy, George, Nancy, Jordan, Kelly, Carmen, Lorenzo, Evelyn, Paulina, Barbra, and Sylvia.
Secretary Report: Motioned to approve the minutes as read. Moved by Tippy. Second by Jordan. All agreed.
Treasury Report: 1796.27. Motioned to approve moved by Tippy. Second by Sylvia.
Old Business:
National Convention registration is open. In-person New Orleans. July 5-10. New Orleans Marriot. Shariton overflow across the street for convention activities such as exhibit hall. For reservations: 800-6543990 New Orleans Marriot. Shariton 855-516-1090. Singles and doubles $109. Triples and quads: $119.
When making reservations need to pay for at least one night.
Registration fee If attended in-person: #25. Online free. Donations are welcomed.
Certain events such as general sessions are live streamed.
Scholarships:
Thirty applicants at $8,000. Deadline: March 31, 2022.
Membership Committee:
Each officer contacted members two members per person to heck in. To invite to next meeting.
Constitution:
Constitution is Approved. Waiting for the state after Washington seminar. To review by state. Will send to members as soon as approved.
Code of conduct:
Members are encouraged to read the code of conduct. Assists in understanding how to act with participants, and to keep the organization safe, comfortable for all.
RAINN conducts sessions to assist in understanding the code of conduct. RAINN will assist members when code of issues such as bullies, made to feel uncomfortable, mental abuse, physical abuse, and so on. State notebook:
The state affiliates created an event calendar as part of their newsletter. Any events by the state, or chapters, will be sent to Cricket, and our sent out at the beginning of the month events need advanced notice to be featured.
Interest groups:
Sherril Thurston is creating interest groups for the state of California via zoom. Called interest group of California. Areas include sports, technology, crafts, art, or fitness, and book clubs. Someone will be teaching and hosting it.
Meeting will take place and more information to come later.
One Zoom link per person.
Barbra suggests a jewelry class. May be placed within the interest's groups. Organization is still taking place regarding interest groups.
Fundraiser:
Suggestions for two fundraisers. See's cand Popcornopolis. Double good was also suggested. The Difference between everyone has an induvial link. Competing with one another. Popcornopolis is only one link and chapter gets 50% of the money. However, since we are under the state, they may want to pay the state. May cause delays due to the state having to distribute to us as it goes directly to the state.
See's candy too late for easter. Christmas option will start in July. If it is specialty like Christmas, you get 50% but IF it is a regular packaging it is 20%. Discussion took place regarding tabling until July. Information provided by Tippy.
Double good as an option created one link and gets distributed to the chapter. Gets paid electronic to our account. Four days for fundraising. Motion to fundraise to do double good fundraise. Moved by Tippy. Second by Barbra. All agreed.
Dates: Possible first week of May 1-4. More information will be distributed
Bell Academy:
Registration is currently opened. The sessions held throughout the summer June, to August. Volunteered needs. Program for blind children aged 4 to 12. More information on dates still be worked on. In0person children are assigned to you and with parent to discuss learning. Parents meet every day with national.
Washington Seminar Legislative Bills:
Access technology affordability for a tax credit for getting technology 2,000% over three years. Suggested date for 5 years to review based on technology needs. Requires 216 we are at 185. Tippy sat down with Mark Takano and getting too close to sponsorship. Encourage members to contact congress people in your area to discuss sponsoring these bills. Based on your district. Coe-sponsors. Have multiple bills are currently in the house and move to senate. Discussion took place on how bills are passed and voted on after gaining Coe-sponsorship. If the senate does not move on the bill the process restarts it.
Nonvisual medical devices act. For personal devices such as blood pressure, glucometer, or thermometer, No voice readout. Should not cost manufacture the product. Current sponsored not have name. Access to apps. For accessing apps. No need to work around for using apps. Standardization for app. No sponsor.
Includes websites. More information will be sent as soon as we learn more.
Minimum wage. To repeal C13 to remove subminimum wage for people with disabilities include blind. Each state minimum wage and federal wage as well. Federal wage is $7.25. Two states have wages under federal minimum wage levels. Will passed in 1938. C14 certificate. 5-year grace period to gain grants. Someone with multiple disabilities happy with any job making what they can. Looking out for all. California does not have a certificate. Was supposed to be reviewed each year.

Senior Division:
California has a senior division for seniors. Meets twice a year usual. New president wants to meet twice a month. Email will be sent out. Will be on mailing list. Meetings take place and activities occur such as bingo. In addition to speakers. Social stores. Aids in getting to know each other. Bingo was played by phone.
NFB Newsline:
If you are an NFB Newsline subscriber. Amazon devices have a skill to access Newsline. Provide your information when you registered. 4-digit code and a 6-digit numbers. Last four of your cell phone is the security code.

PAC Plan:
Approved the Pac plan last meeting. Will start next month. Chapter will be giving %five to the Pac plan starting in April.
Each month after that will take after April.
Membership:
Dues are being accepted for 2022.
