Hi Everyone,
Tracy asked that I share this previous message that was sent out to the NFB of Oregon announce list in October, after our state convention. Please see the letter template below if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Hi Fellow Oregon Federationists,
Thank you all so much for a wonderful weekend at the state convention. If you were not able to attend, we discussed our letter writing campaign to state lawmakers. As promised, below is an example letter template. Feel free to use it and adapt it how you best see fit. Please make sure that your letters to your state senator and representative is both short simple and heartfelt. Let’s make sure that the programs that we rely on and continue to benefit from are not cut.
If you do not know who your state senator or representative is, there is a legislative look up link below.

To the Honorable (insert Legislators name and title) — example: Representative McGary
My name is (your name), I’m a resident of (insert legislative house/senate district here). I’m also a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Oregon a non-profit advocacy group of blind Oregonians seeking equality, civil rights and economic security for our fellow blind Oregonians.
During the 2025 legislative session, members from our organization reached out to all 90 legislative offices, (either in-person meetings or via email), discussing our legislative priorities. We are very grateful that the Oregon Commission for the blind and the talking book and Braille services/state library were able to be funded at the current service level.
As the legislature enters the 2026 short session, we know that Oregon agency budgets may be re-examined. That is why I wanted to write to you today, expressing the importance for the need of current service level funding to these programs that are so vital for blind Oregonians. (Give a 1-2 sentence example of how both the Oregon commission for the blind and talking book Braille services have helped you.)
It is my hope that fellow blind Oregonians will be able to have the resources they need from the commission for the blind and talking book in braille services to help them adjust to their vision loss, therefore, I respectfully ask you not to cut either agencies budget.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Sincerely,
(Your name)
