Hi Jim,

I echo the sentiments of others on this list. I have not used this means of transportation.

Please let us know what your experience is with the company. Also, I think this could be the topic for a future meeting as many people are not aware of how you can travel independently as a blind person on various conveyances and could benefit from a discussion or two on the topic.

This is a great use of this server. I have not used that service, but I have used the Amtrak in past years a lot and I absolutely love traveling by train, but of course it’s not perfect for everything.

Since this went out to everyone, I have to say I've never heard of it. I used to go from Portland to Olympia all the time about every three months and my sister lived here, but I went by Amtrak. I hope you find somebody on here that has used this and can help. I think it's fine that you asked the question. We are here to help each other if we can.

Hi, everyone.

Forgive me if I am using this list for the wrong reasons. But, in a way, it is blindness related…I think! 😊 Anyway, Rod, Kirk, or Tracy can yell at me if this list shouldn’t be used for questions like these.

I wonder if anyone has tried something called Flixbus, and if so, I’d like to know your experiences using it. I have been needing to make a few Portland to Seattle trips lately, and I’ll be making one more this coming weekend. I’ve always taken Amtrak, even when I would make trips from Seattle to Portland. While it’s not the worst price in the world, I am seeing that Amtrak’s prices are getting higher. Round trip is right around $120. Add Ubers to and from the Portland train station, and it adds up. At least my friends can pick me up in Seattle. I am seeing that these Flixbus trips are cheaper, for sure!

I get a bit nervous when Flixbus says that it will pick me up and drop me off at the Curbside Bus stop. What does that mean, and where is that located?

Finally, I want to know how accessible or blind friendly these buses and apps are. Will I need to keep anything in mind when dealing with them? At least with Amtrak, I can ask for a Red Cap if I need assistance, or I can talk to a conductor prior to leaving.

Basically, is Flixbus worth trying when it comes to going from Portland to Seattle or Portland to Olympia? What about other parts in Oregon?

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions.

Jim
