Hello NFB of SD!
This is your friendly webmaster here to announce some exciting changes to
our website nfbofsd.org!
First, I have added a Google Custom Search Engine. I have scoured the web
for an easy to use, easy to install, and above all ad-free search engine
for my sites, but was unfortunately unsuccessful. Google's Custom Search
Engine may contain ads, but it was incredibly easy to install and is very
easy to use. Say, for example, you were interested in learning more about
the KNFB Reader App. Typing "KNFB" in the search engine will reveal that
information about it is on the Resources page.
Second, I have added font settings to the website. Locate the button
labeled "Fonts" on your screen. It will be either to the right of the
checkbox labeled "Reverse" or directly below the "Themes" button, depending
on the device you use and the size of the device. Clicking or tapping the
"Fonts" button will open a dialog box with a variety of sliders that will
allow you to customize the font to your liking and in theory improve your
reading experience.
1. *Font Size:* The first slider, labeled "Font Size" will allow you to
increase or decrease the size of your text. It is set at 18 points by
default, and can be decreased to 10 points or increased to a whopping 48
points.
2. *Font Family:* The second slider is labeled "Font Family" and will
change how text appears on your screen. I kept the font family names
generic because not all computers and devices have the same fonts. I did it
this way so that no matter what option you choose, you will never run into
a font that replaces all of your text with squares or something else weird.
1. If you find reading fonts like Times New Roman easier to read,
move the slider to the left to choose the "Serif" font family.
2. If you find fonts such as Arial easier to read, locate
"Sans-Serif" on the slider. This option is selected by default
because that
is the font family I use in all of my sites, including this one.
3. If you find Courier New easier to read, select the "Monospace"
value in this slider.
4. The last two options, "Cursive" and "Fantasy" are harder to
associate with specific fonts. The "Cursive" option is supposed to look
like handwriting, and is set to Comic Sans MS by default on my
computer. It
may be different for yours.
5. The same goes for the "Fantasy setting. I'm pretty sure it is set
to Arial Black by default on my computer. I am not sure what its
default is
on yours. My advice is to use your best judgement and choose the font
family that is easiest for you to read.
3. Font Style: The "Font Style" setting has only three options;
"Normal", "Italic", and "Oblique". Depending on the font family you choose,
this setting might not make very much of a difference in your text.
Sometimes I think "Italic" and "Oblique" look the same. It is set to
"Normal" by default.
4. *Font Weight:* The "Font Weight" setting changes how light or how
bold your font looks. It has four named settings; "Normal", "Bold",
"Bolder," and "Lighter". It has nine numbered settings ranging from 100 to
900. 100 is the lightest and 900 is the boldest. It is set to "Normal" by
default.
5. *Text Align:* Change whether your text ligns up with the left margin
by selecting the "Left" option, which is set at default. You can also
center your text on the screen by selecting the "Center" option. Finally,
you can align the text along the right margin by selecting the "Right"
option.
6. *Text Transform:* Finally, you can choose whether every word of your
text is capitalized by selecting the "Capitalize" option, The "Full-Width"
and "Fullsize-Kana" are still a mystery to me, and may only be applicable
to Latin characters in squares. The "Lowercase" option removes all capital
letters in the text and replaces them with lowercase letters. The
"Capitalize" setting replaces all lowercase letters with uppercase letters.
I also updated Ken Rollman's email address on the website and changed the
past president Mauer's name to Riccobono. If there are any updates you
would like me to make, please let me know.
Sincerely,
