The first electric percolator I had had the electric plugged into the
bottom of the pitcher. Unfortunately the manufacturer did not supply a
washing plug for the unit. A washing plug would have gone into the port
on the bottom of the pitcher and kept the electrical workings on the
inside of the percolator dry when being hand washed. This first
percolator was all metal except for the plastic pitcher bottom and had the
base for the percolator basket with a steam tube on which to set the
basket. My guess is it may have been a Hamilton-Beach model but don't
quote me on that.
Now I have a farberware percolator and it is different.
Made of plastic and metal. No internal basket or steam tube. Put water
and coffee in pot and close lid. Where the pot spout is, many small holes
on the side of the unit where coffee will pour small enough to maybe fit a
stylus point but I wouldn't bet on it.
Here's the big difference with the Farberware percolator. It comes with a
separate base and you put the pot on the base when ready to percolate.
The pot can be washed separate from the electrrical components and you get
a thick electrical cord with a three prong plug for the electric part of
the unit.
How well does this work? I'll know tomorrow and if there's interest I'll
send findings to this list.
Cost for this unit was I think about $33.00.
