The Department of Psychology at Denison University invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates who have evidence of approaching problems from multiple theoretical perspectives and who have teaching and scholarly interests in the areas of a) cultural psychology or b) environmental psychology or c) the social determinants of health. Preference will be given to candidates whose area(s) of research or expertise focus(es) on the understanding, prevention, and/or solution of individual and social problems. The successful candidate will be expected to teach content and research courses at the undergraduate level, including Introductory Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics, and junior-senior level courses in an area of expertise. The typical teaching load is 5 courses per year. At the time of appointment (August, 2018), candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field. We seek applicants who demonstrate the following qualifications: Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence and/or evidence of successful undergraduate teaching; a clear motivation to mentor undergraduates in a liberal arts setting; evidence of research productivity in psychological science and the potential to develop a productive research program that involves undergraduates; and a commitment to contribute actively to the growth of the Department and College. The candidates' statements on teaching, research, and diversity will be carefully reviewed for evidence of these qualities. We will consider the extent to which each candidate's research perspective complements those currently represented in the department. We will also consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to academic success, and activities the candidate proposes implementing that would enhance the college's inclusive excellence. Denison is committed to attracting and supporting an academically and culturally diverse faculty. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive learning community as part of its strategic mission. The Psychology Department currently has 13 full time faculty members who represent a wide range of specialty areas. Departmental facilities include research areas, computer labs used for instruction and research, and classrooms equipped for multimedia instruction. There are college and departmental programs for mentoring and enhancing teaching. The college also offers generous support for faculty and student research, including a junior faculty leave following a successful third year review. Denison University is an academically rigorous liberal arts college with competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Denison is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capitol, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Granville also offers an excellent public school system and easy access to outdoor activities. To achieve our mission as a liberal arts college, we continually strive to foster a diverse campus community, which recognizes the value of all persons regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, color, gender identity and or expression, sexual orientation, family configuration, disability, socioeconomic status, religion, national origin, age, or military status.
