Hi Monty,

One such list I am on is usaba-cycling at topica.com. The list has been pretty
inactive, though. I just sent out a note today, to try to stir the coals. I
bet usaba has other activity specific lists out there.

For those of you who were interested in how my hill ride went, I will tell
you. We only did the first loop, of 40 miles. Due to bike set-up, we got a
late start and never really caught up with the ride. It was extremely windy
and cold. I told my pilot that if she wanted to continue to the second loop,
I'd join her, but I was not really enjoying the ride at that point. We rode
55 miles that day. She seemed to be happy as well.

That is probably the toughest ride one can do in Austin. It is very
technical with all the hills. My pilot was new to a tandem with Italian
shifters and I thought it prudent to not push her to my level of riding that
day. That sounds a little harsh, but it all worked out. It was a lesson for
me in when not to push the limits of a team. It also reminded me of how much
more fun it is to suffer through a difficult ride with together with others.

The following Saturday, I rode 80 miles with a bunch of guys and one lady.
It was a steady, social ride. The last 25 miles, we rode near our limits to
catch a rider, who took a head start on us. After we caught him, we all kept
driving the pace. We were dropping some singles, while going up some hills.
The last mile or two, I ran out of gas and limped in. While waiting for my
lunch, I ate a bar-b-q rib that my friend Tammi stuck in my jersey pocket at
the 56-mile mark. That was part of the reason one rider got ahead of us!

Any excuse to play racer-games!
