Attention Power-Showdown (Showdown) enthusiasts.  Attached is information pertaining to the 2009 IBSA World Showdown Championships to be conducted from 12 to 16 August, 2009 in Handen, Sweden.  Specific details about the tournament are listed below.   If you are interested in competing as a individual or as part of a team, please contact our National Power Showdown-Showdown Sport Coordinator, Jim Mastro,  jmastro at bemidjistate.edu, by May 10, 2009.  Time is limited as the first entry and deposit must be submitted by May 31, 2009.

The Organizing Committee supported by the Swedish Sports Organization for the Disabled and the Swedish Paralympic Committee (NPC Sweden) and IBSA have the pleasure to invite you to the IBSA 2009 SHOWDOWN World Championships to be held in Handen - Sweden, August 12th to 16th 2009.

      1st INFORMATION 


1.         ORGANIZATION

            Synskadades IF and NPC Sweden.

            The Organizing Committee consists of:
            Krister Olenmo, chairman
            Monica Andersson, responsible of food and catering
            Inger Hultgren, competition secretariat 
            Conny Nygren, press and media contacts 

2.         STATUS – Sanctioned by

            IBSA – International Blind Sports Federation.

3.         DATE

            12th to 16th August 2009.

4.         ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

The games will take place in Handen, which is located about 25 kilometres south of Stockholm. The name and address of the hotel are:

The hotel is located within 200 metres from the Railway station in Handen.

The Organizing Committee provides full board logistic facilities which include accommodation and meals in a comfortable hotel with double and triple rooms.

An additional cost of 90 Euro/person will be charged for persons who prefer single room. 

5.         THE COMPETITION VENUE

All the games will be played in a building next to the hotel. To make sure to meet all your expectations the competition venue will be tested during the European top twelve competition in May.

6.         AIRLINES 

Direct Fly from several main Airports to Stockholm Arlanda International Airport. It´s also possible to fly to Skavsta, Nykoping by Ryan air.

The Organizing Committee will provide transportation from and to Stockholm Arlanda airport at a cost of 20 Euro/person. 

The Organizing Committee will provide transportation from and to Skavsta airport at a cost of 100 Euro for a maximum of four persons/transport. 

7.         VISA REQUIREMENT
            
Visa to come to Sweden might be required for some countries. (Please see the attached list).

8.         LANGUAGE

English is the official language of the event. All material and information will be available in English. 

9.         INSURANCE

Members of the participating countries are responsible for their own insurance requirement for travel, personal accident, liability and medical matters.

10.       SOCIAL PROGRAMME
            
A reception for team delegates, sponsors, IBSA representatives, etc. will be held during Saturday evening. 


11.       ELIGIBILITY / ACCREDITATION / MEDICAL PROVISION / ANTI DOPING 

Eligibility of athletes: all participants must have an IBSA classification. There will be an IBSA classifier on site to perform sight examinations during the 12th of August between 12.00-19.00. 

Accreditation cards: will be issued to each athlete their passport and eligibility has been confirmed.

Medical support: the hospital of Handen is located close to the competition venue. They are informed of the event.

Doping Controls: Doping Controls will be conducted. 

12.       COMPETITION RULES

The competition rules will be according to the IBSA showdown rules 2009-2012.


13.       PARTICIPANTS

Players: each team may enter a maximum of 5 (five) players: 3 (three) men and 2 (two) woman. The events are: men single, women single and team (triple, five persons/team). 

Officials: a maximum of 5 (five) officials including guides and team leaders will be allowed.

15.       IBSA CAPITATION FEE

The Entry Fee must include 25 Euro per player for IBSA capitation fee.

16.       ENTRY FEE

            - 350 Euro per player including accommodation, food and IBSA capitation fee.
            - 325 Euro for officials (team leaders, guides, etc.) including accommodation, food and social programme.
            - 20% must be paid together with the 1st Entry, at latest 31th May 2009.
            - The rest 80% must be paid together with the Final Entry, at latest 15th July 2009.
