The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons is a private organization in which its members have the choice to belong to or not, and has the right to set rules it finds as conscionable.
That being said, I think the foundation is out of line here. As the guide is required to run the race just as fast as the contest participant, he is just as much an athlete. The two runners work as a team; just like a tandem bike team, or even fully sighted bobsled or swim teams. I personally say "Good for you Jason!" Maybe this situation will make aware the "policies" of this foundation and the IOC, and the importance of the performance and achievements of "the team." Especially since apparently the guides/teammates of cross country skiers and tandem bikers are recognized both with medals and by this foundation. As for the question of whether or not the foundation would pay for the guide's travel expenses if he lived outside Toronto.the fact that it's "not an issue" sounds like a politician's answer.
So Ron from Austin, what are your personal views on not letting your captains to receive any awards or acknowledgements after a race?
