Hi Anita,
I think you should ask a doctor or dietitian. Fruit is real important for
things like fiber, vitamins and minerals. If you are alergic to citris
fruit, you need other sources to substitute. Maybe have more non citris
fruit like grapes and watermelon. Having vegetables and fruits that you
don't react to is a good idea. Also have lots of water; you said you had
some; that's good.
About starches, have whole grains like wheat bread and I think its found in
cereal such as cheerios. Kelly could probably chime in about sources of
whole grains. You need some starches; just moderate portions. I heard many
dieters make the mistake of cutting back too much on starches. I'm no
expert. But I heard simple starches are bad, quickly going into the blood
stream raising glucose, while complex starches are good. They take longer
to break down in the body and are absorbed slowly. Starches are carbs and
you certainly need them in your diet. It is broken into simple sugar or
glucose in the body. This is the main source of fuel for the body.
Your idea to stay away from sodas is a good one! I need to work on that
too. Sodas have sugar and lots of stuff in them that are bad for you.
I think your cousin may have been doing some diet for religious purposes.
You should clarify her goals if you haven't already. It sounds like she had
a religious purpose and a result was losing inches.
I don't agree with eliminating bread; it can be good for you if eating the
right kind. again I think portion is the key; two pieces of bread a day for
a sanwich doesn't seem bad to me. The way you described your cousin's plan
was tempoary. To have lasting change, you have to modify eating habits
permanently. Of course you can have small amounts of sweets sometimes just
not regularly.
Good luck.
Ashley
