[Sportsandrec] Seeking blind contra dancers

I could be mistaken, but I've heard that contra dancing is kind of like
line dancing. I've done quite a bit of line dancing.

On another dancing related note, Greg and I took a semi-private two hour
dance lesson with my parents last weekend. We did an hour of salsa and
an hour of fox trot. I don't know whether or not my mom mentioned that
Greg and I are blind when she set up the lesson, but the instructor
didn't seem to bat an eyelash. She didn't say anything to us about our
blindness, but she was great at verbally explaining things and had no
problem demonstrating moves on us or answering our questions when we had
them.

I think all four of us would agree that it was a lot of fun and would
recommend the studio and the instructor, Mary, to anyone, blind or
sighted, who's interested in learning to dance. The studio was called
Dance Center Chicago and the link is below:

this is a networking request. I've been involved in contra dance this
year and keep getting told about blind contra dancers that someone met
in different cities - One in Philadelphia, one in Washington DC, one in
Houston, but nobody who actually knows how to contact these people. A
bit of google searching alludes to others. I'm wanting to find some of
them and see if I can get ideas re some of my own frustrations. I have a
bit of word of mouth going on in Texas trying to locate a guy named John
who is a farmer and also plays a
flute. who I saw mentioned on someone's blog. I have some other
ideas but I thought maybe the blind small world might also work. If
anyone has any connections to these people, or maybe even is one of
them, will you drop me a note off-list? I'll be happy to pass along a
phone number if that will make it easier.

Thanks,

Lynn
