                  Alpine Skiing

The U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team is already showing it will be a major contender in Vancouver.

The team recently collected seven medals at the 2009 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, including three golds and one silver from sit-skier Stephani Victor (Park City, Utah). Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) picked up a pair of silver medals for Team USA and Chris Devlin-Young (Campton, N.H.) earned a bronze in the downhill.

                  Nordic Skiing

Nordic Skiing represents the disciplines of cross country skiing and biathlon. Led by Monica Bascio's (Evergreen, Colo.) bronze medal in the 5k, Team USA recently made a strong showing at the IPC Cross Country World Cup event in Whistler, the site of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

Chris Klebl (Heber City, Utah) grabbed an eighth place finish in the men's 5k while three other team members - Greg Mallory (Portland, Ore.), Sean Halsted (Ephrata, Wash.) and Andy Soule (Pearland, Texas) - finished in the top-20.

Klebl picked up another top-10 finish in the men's 10k event.

                  Sled Hockey

Three years ago in Torino, the U.S. sled hockey team won a bittersweet bronze medal. "Bitter," says team member Taylor Lipsett (Mesquite, Texas), "because we wanted the gold, but sweet because winning any color medal is a huge accomplishment!"

The team has gained valuable experience since 2006 and is expecting to reach the podium once again in Vancouver.

Most recently, Team USA finished second to archrival and defending Paralympic gold medalist Canada at the inaugural Hockey Canada Cup in Vancouver.

Follow team member Brad Emmerson's blog and keep up with the U.S. sled hockey team as it prepares for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

                  Wheelchair Curling

The 2010 U.S. Paralympic Wheelchair Curling Team was the first team, Olympic or Paralympic, nominated to represent the United States in Vancouver.

The team members are Augusto Perez (East Syracuse, N.Y.), James Pierce (North Syracuse, N.Y.), James Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Kapinowski (Point Pleasant, N.J.). Patrick McDonald (Orangevale, Calif.) was named the team's alternate.

In February, Team USA finished in fourth place at the 2009 World Wheelchair Curling Championships.
