[Sportsandrec] Done!

Hi Jennifer,

Nice story about the road kill. I never heard of riders taking it so
seriously.:)

Gotta say, though, that my glutes were not really sore from the seat on my
201 mile ride. I had a familiar saddle and it was set about right for my
ride. My glutes were sore, not wear the saddle makes contact, but across the
entire muscle. When I feel it in my hams and glutes, I know I am pedaling in
circles. If I was just pushing on the pedals, I'd feel it more in my quads,
or in the fronts of my thighs.

Funny thing, I have my saddles and bars on a few other tandems in the
neighborhood, owned by some of my regular pilots. One guy removed my saddle
from my post to let his ex-girlfriend ride with him using her own cushy
saddle. When he put mine back on, he did not get it exactly where I had it.

I rode 72 miles with him this past Sunday. I felt fine, but around the 50 or
60 mile mark, I started feeling problems back there. By the end of the ride,
I was standing more frequently for relief.

So, the thing is, that I am a seasoned rider who just completed a 201-mile
ride the previous weekend without any saddle discomfort. Then, I ride my
familiar saddle for a much shorter ride and two days later, I am still very
sore. Not in the glutes at all, but more like my tailbone, which tells me
that the nose or beak of that saddle needs to come up a bit before I ride
with him again.

"I've got to ride, ride like the wind, to be free again." Christopher Cross

: Ron,
: That is so awesome! I am bowing down to your tandem talents and feeling
: your glutes sympathetically! Scratch that...I understand your pain after
my
: recent experience. I am one big ache after a taxing three-hour practice
: yesterday but am psyched for the season! I may have a tandem pilot in the
: works for Tuesday morning rides. Now I need the discipline to work that
: into my schedule. No more rants on the computer!
: Again, awesome job and I knew you could do it!
: P.S. Did I tell you guys the roadkill story relayed by my pilot two weeks
: ago? He said on this bike ride in Iowa there are nothing but hills and
: fields, punctuated by an occasional crossing casualty. Riders in these
: races don't avoid the roadkill or clean it up--they decorate it! Riders
: drop beads on the deceased and racing teams slap their logo stickers on as
: they pass. By the end of the race, you can barely spy the remains. I
asked
: him if the ride was a "Cult Classic." Jennifer

: Dead skunk in the middle of the road
: You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
: Stinkin' to high Heaven!
: Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose!
: Roll up yer window and hold yer nose
: You don't have to look and you don't have to see
: 'Cause you can feel it in your olfactory
: ...
: Yeah you got yer dead cat and you got yer dead dog
: On a moonlight night you got yer dead toad frog
: Got yer dead rabbit and yer dead raccoon
: The blood and the guts they're gonna make you swoon!
: ...
: You got it!
: It's dead, it's in the middle
: Dead skunk in the middle!
: Dead skunk in the middle of the road
: Stinkin' to high heaven!
: All over the road, technicolor man!
: Oh, you got pollution
: It's dead, it's in the middle
: And it's stinkin' to high, high Heaven!"
