                        "Chairs for Champions" Provides 100 Sport Wheelchairs to Chicago Area Programs

                         

                        The Hartford and U.S. Paralympics teamed up with World Sport Chicago and Chicago 2016 to donate 100 sport wheelchairs to Paralympic sport programs in the greater Chicago area.

                         

                        Mayor Richard M. Daley joined a number of Paralympic athletes and representatives from each participating organization at Daley Plaza to present the wheelchairs.  Attendees at the "Chairs for Champions" event also enjoyed Paralympic sport demonstrations and had the opportunity to meet the athletes.

                        Vote Now for 2009 U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame's Paralympic Nominees

                         

                        Five Paralympic athletes have been nominated for induction into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.

                         

                        Class of 2009 nominees include Jean Driscoll (athletics), David Larson (athletics), Greg Mannino (alpine skiing), Tony Volpentest (athletics) and Sarah Will (alpine skiing).

                         

                        Fans can cast their votes through June 16.

                        Registration Open for National Paralympic Military Sports Camp in Rhode Island

                         

                        The first National USOC Paralympic Military Sports Camp of 2009 will be held in Newport, Rhode Island, June 26-July 1.

                         

                        This camp is for service members with physical injuries that are interested in participating in Paralympic sport.  There is no cost to service members to attend the camp.

                         

                        The focus of the camp will be on the sports of archery, rowing, cycling, swimming, track & field, sit volleyball and sailing.

                        2009 USABA Goalball National Championships

                         

                        The 2009 U.S. Association of Blind Athletes Goalball National Championships will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo., June 11-13.

                         

                        More than 20 of the best adult teams in the country will compete at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind for the national title.

                         

                        Teams can register through June 1.

                        U.S. Athletes to Compete in 
                        Paralympic World Cup

                         

                        More than 20 U.S. athletes will travel to Manchester, England, May 20-25, to compete in the BT Paralympic World Cup.

                         

                        Competition will take place in track cycling, swimming, track & field and wheelchair basketball.

                         

                        Many athletes competing in the individual sports are also 2008 Beijing Paralympians.  The Under-23 U.S. Men's National Team will be taking part in the wheelchair basketball competition as a tune-up for the Under-23 World Championships, which will take place in France this July.

                         Meet Sled Hockey's Steve Cash in Latest Going for the Gold Vodcast


                        Steve Cash is the starting goaltender for the U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey National Team.  Get to know Cash in the latest Going for the Gold vodcast, which highlights a different 2010 Paralympic Winter Games hopeful each month.

                         

                        Cash and Team USA will be competing in the IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships beginning May 9 in the Czech Republic.

                        U.S. Paralympics & BlazeSports America Partner to Present Educational Webinars

                         

                        U.S. Paralympics has partnered with BlazeSports America to provide a series of online educational seminars.



                        Each webinar serves as an overview of how to involve individuals with physical disabilities in a featured sport, as well as basic tips on coaching and starting a program.

                         

                        Upcoming sport topics include cycling, swimming and wheelchair basketball. 

                         

                        The next webinar, scheduled for May 20, will provide an overview of the Chicago 2016 bid for the Olympic & Paralympic Games.

                        Endeavor Games Registration 
                        Deadline Approaching

                         

                        In 2009, the University of Central Oklahoma is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Endeavor Games, which will take place June 11-13 in Edmond, Okla.

                         

                        Athletes with physical disabilities will have the opportunity to compete in powerlifting, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, swimming, sitting volleyball, cycling, track & field, archery and shooting.  Special introductory sport clinics will also be held on June 11.

                         

                        The deadline to register is May 22.

                        2009 U.S. Paralympics Track & Road Cycling National Championships

                         

                        U.S. Paralympics is pleased to announce it will be hosting national championships in both track and road cycling in 2009.

                         

                        Track cycling nationals will be held in conjunction with USA Cycling's Junior National Championship event on July 2-3 at the ADT Event Center in Carson, Calif. 

                         

                        Road cycling nationals will be held in conjunction with USA Cycling's Elite, Under-23 and Junior National Championship event on July 31 in Bend, Ore.

                        2010 Developing Amazing Leaders Paralympic Conference Dates Announced

                         

                        Save the date!  The 2010 Developing Amazing Leaders Paralympic Conference will be held April 30-May 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

                         

                        More than 250 attendees enjoyed this year's conference, which offered opportunities to learn from and network with leaders in the Paralympic movement.

                         

                        The 2009 Amazing Award winners were also announced.  Congratulations to all the honorees:  Ann Cody, Blaze Sports America - Amazing Leader(National/International); Dave Poulin, Paralympic Sport Alaska - Amazing Leader (Community); Paralympic Sport Las Vegas - Amazing Sport Club; The Hartford -Amazing Investor; Visa - Amazing Impact; Melissa Stockwell - Amazing Mentor; Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project - Amazing Salute.
