Hello. Please see below for an opportunity to help a friend with his writing of a book on sports and the blind.

Subject: Be Part of a New Book on Sports for the Blind

      Good afternoon--

As many of you know, I'm writing a book on sports and recreation for the blind and visually impaired, profiling the growing number of accessible sport and fitness providers opportunities now available. Information Age Publishing (Charlotte, NC) will publish the book later this year and may include it in its series, Critical Concerns in Blindness.

A major goal is to provide motivation for blind and visually impaired people to try a new sport by offering suggestions on how to get started and showing the life benefits of participation. The book will cover all accessible sports and recreation and profile key organizations serving the blind. The book will feature elite athletes as well as ordinary people who've developed a passion for a specific sport or activity.

I am asking blind and visually impaired athletes, coaches, recreation providers, and organizational leaders two basic questions:

      1. How did you get involved in your sport and what advice can you offer others about getting started?

      2. How has sports participation impacted your life?

Some people like to write email responses; I am happy to arrange phone interviews if that's more convenient. I will follow up in early February.

If you know of blind or visually impaired athlete who has a compelling story (from Paralympic victory to discovering the joy of tandem biking), let me know and feel free to forward this email to anyone who might wish to contribute. I'll also consider any camera-ready images you can provide.

      Thank you for your help.

      Sincerely,
      Andrew Leibs
