Hi All,
I'm new to the list and joined because I have a strong interest in exercise and want to share it with my students. I should also say that I am not visually impaired.
Kickboxing: I love cardio kickboxing! I have been doing it for nearly 15 years now, and I plan to keep enjoying it for many many years <smile>. Lisamaria, do you and your friend know what kind of kickboxing you want to do? Cardio kickbox classes, training to become a fighting kickboxer in a ring, or kicking as it relates to various martial arts as others have been addressing? The answer may help you find the kind of instructor you need.
I completely agree with Justin, it's all about finding the right instructor. Last year I became involved with Kyokushin Karate, and not because I was looking for it. An instructor entered my life and she is a good fit for my training needs. If it weren't for her, I likely wouldn't be practicing Karate.
A cousin of Kyokushin Karate is Seido Karate and they are based in NY, NY. I mention it because they have a program specifically for blind and visually impaired students. Here's a link to their website: http://www.seido.com/community/special-programs/seido-karate-program-for-the-blind-and-visually-impaired
I'm not sure how they teach kicks, but maybe if you call they can offer some direction or advice. I'm hoping to visit this dojo soon and to see the program first hand.
Hope this helps!
Cheers, Erin
