Hello Justin,

I knew a blind preschool girl whose dad called her cane a recon stick.  I
loved it because it was such a positive attitude for her dad to have for her
cane.  

As for other references, there are hiking staffs, shepherd's staffs quarter
staffs and martial arts jo which I have also learned to use.

I knew a blind Episcapal priest who was also a black belt in karate who had
a great self defense routine for a folded cane.  

Then there is the Irish Shalalee and the English gentleman's walking cane
not meanth so much for balance as for beating off hulligans.  

What a noble history the cane!
