[Sportsandrec] running

Hey LM, I am well aware of the pressure that a dog guide would be under
having to run and guide in harness. I am just seeking out information on
the subject. Regardless I am going to participate in the 5K as well as the
half marathon. I am also going to look in to finding a human guide to run
with me and leave the dog at home, which might be the best thing.

Hey Tina,

wouldn't it be unfair of you to put your pup through that much
pressure? I remember during my O&M training at Guide Dogs the question
about running with your dog came up. Their point of view was that the
dogs are trained to guide while walking, and that by running, the dog
was under pressure to guide.

By no means am I criticizing anyone who runs with a guide dog. In
fact, I recently read something in some newspaper about a blind girl
in the midwest who ran with her guide dog. So, if an owner thinks it
is safe enough, then to each his or her own.
