Live aboards are excursions where you stay out on the boat for a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Think of it as a cruise where about all you do is eat, sleep, and dive. The boats have their own compressors, the only travel you do is from your berth to the dive platform; and often times you move from dive site to dive site. Live aboards I've been on included up to 4 dives a day plus several night dive opportunities, the dining is usually top notch, and the sites are usually warm water and pretty amazing. Bahamas, the Caymans, Fiji, Thailand, Kona. I don't know of any fresh water live aboards.
