I row in Oklahoma City at the Chesapeake Boathouse. I row with our
club's masters team. Yes, rowing machines (a.k.a. erg) help for
strength and conditioning. It's different than being in a boat and
there's only so much you can do to practice technique on an erg, but
for fitness and staying in shape, it's great. I can always tell a
difference in my rowing when I spend the time on my erg. My strokes
are stronger and my endurance is better. I also do some weight lifting
to go along with rowing. I do a lot of squats of course, and I target
lats, triceps and core. I enjoy tandem cycling as well.
