[Sportsandrec] SPORTS WITH SMALL AUDIBLE BALLS?

Did you try beeping volleyballs or suggest your idea below to the companies
that manufacture volleyballs with bells? What about rolling the volleyball
on the floor? I remember we discussed volleyball on this list before, not
sure how many countries play volleyball for the blind but of the four in
Asia I am aware of only the Philippines using an audible volleyball
whereas the other three seem to use balls with no sound but I am still not
sure how the back players, three, who have to be B1 and still wear
blindfolds I think whereas the front three are B2 and/or B3 or maybe fully
sighted so not sure how they hear the rolling of the ball even though the
crowd is quiet yet it seems they play successfully , in Japan, where this
all began and now also in India, Philippines and Vietnam, there is an
audible ball but it's probably not used. Adapted
tennis or floor tennis originated in Japan in 1990 and I read the first USA
tournament was held recently and I think three bounces are allowed, they use
a tennis ball slightly bigger than a normal tennis ball containing an
audible table tennis ball that rattles but bounces, I think some had issues
with this ball saying it breaks easily but others like it so not sure if
other balls are being tried but I am sure one of the American companies in
the field of adapted balls will come up with another ball if needs be.
Regarding finding a ball with a hole and
inserting bells and sealing it, interesting topic of adapting balls though I
wasn't sure how simple this was because I
want to adapt a 2010 Fifa world cup soccer ball like that and tried to find
out how and was told the audible balls are manufactured with the balls being
probably wrapped around the sound device, sounds similar to Kelly's idea
with the volleyballs, rather than the sound being put
into the hole but then I don't intend mine to be used as an official ballso
probably doesn't matter, also feel I don't want to duplicate what others are
already doing. There was a facility the Sports Factory that had a disabled
section and manufactured certain audible balls for a while but closed due to
high rental and weren't well known, seems some countries prefer to import
audible balls from the U.S. or Europe or Asia rather than manufacture them
locally, I asked about it here some years ago.

Yeah, activities where the number of bounces is lower (table/tennis,
volleyball, etc) the "bell" balls are harder to track because it generally
takes two or more bounces to determine a velocity (speed and direction),
plus in sports like volleyball (which I know isn't a "small ball" activity)
where the ball doesn't generally spin in the air there is nothing to make
the bells vibrate. When we adapted tennis for a college course I was allowed
two bounces for this reason. Anyone want a decent marketing idea, a leather
volleyball where the leather is sewn into small flaps inside so if the ball
does spin during flight the flaps will agitate the bells. Slightly off
topic.
Otherwise, toys for smaller pets (puppies/kittens) work okay, and if you
find a ball with a hole in it you may be able to insert bells and seal the
hole (did this with a wiffleball once with reasonable success).
