Anne,
Surprisingly there are a lot of us blind shooters out here. Everyone
comes up with their own way of doing it but I can share a bit of how I go
about shooting at the range.
First, I use electronic ear protection. This allows me to hear
everything amplified until they since the high decibels and cut out. It's
important to find a pair that has two microphones so you can locate where
sound is coming from. They can be purchased fairly cheap online.
Next, I use the inexpensive remote electronic key finder alarms. I
attach one over the center of my target and when the remote is pressed the
alarm sounds over the target. Some friends of mine even have used the
musical greeting cards for targets. They don't give you the option of
turning them on from a distance though.
Some people use a laser and spotter at the range but this makes you
rely on assistance.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy firearms. If you would like, e-mail
me off list and I can try to help.

There is an organization in Europe called the international blind shooters
association. If you search for them on Google you can find all of the
adaptations they have for marking targets etc. Years ago there used to be an
organization called shot in the dark that was made up of both blind shooters
and archers.
