There is Veacon technology which is being used at the London airport and
several shopping malls.
The Devices are quite small and battery powered.
They transmit a signal to an application on your phone when you approach
them.
Headphones may be necessary if you are riding.
Their purpose is mainly to assist blind shoppers and travelers.
There is quite a bit of information on the Internet about them.
