[Sportsandrec] horse back riding

Hello,
We'd be interested in locating horse back riding instructors/camps
in the San Antonio Area as well for the same reason.
These folks do a great job of promoting sports like self defense,
yoga, and less vigorous activities but they're seriously below par when it
comes to plugging blind persons into resources for doing more complex and
vigorous sports activities and have done nothing to urge blind sports
organizations that operate their programs based on outmoted attitudes
towards the blind.
In addition to finding horse back riding resources in our area I'd love to
find someone I can play golf with. There are a number of organizations for
blind golfers all of which have player categories based on one's vision
level. This is commonly referred to as the "Hierarchy of Sight." It's the
mistaken belief that you have ability in direct proportion to the amount of
eyesight you have. I'd love to see the research data these groups have to
prove that these policies are valid. To avoid conflicts with such groups
we've kept our distance from them. This rubbish has been around for years
and needs a one-way trip to the nearest incinnerator.
That rubbish aside blind persons have been riding horses, sailing,
canoeing, skiing, and playing golf for years yet this division has done next
to nothing to promote these sports among the blind and to spearhead the
creation of new blind sports organizations based on an enlightened
philosophy of blindness that could lead to the integration of blind athletes
with the sighted. This has happened in the horse arena and could happen on
the golf course. How cool it would be to have viewers turn on a future
Vollero Texas Open to watch Peter Donahue playing alongside the likes of
Tiger Woods, Jordan Speith, Matt Coucher, Phil Nicelson, Rorry Mackelroy,
Justin Rhodes, etc. The Vollero Texas Open is held in San Antonio at the JW
Marriott TPC golf course here in San Antonio. The TPC San Antonio has two
golf courses. The Vollero Texas Open is played on the "Oaks Course." The TPC
San Antonio's other course is the "Canyon Course." Since we have a Braille
production facility here in town if a more forward-thinking group of blind
golf enthusiasts is created in the Alamo City we could have Braille graphics
showing the hole lay-out of the corses the group uses for it's golf
activities this would be an awesome way to show blind golfers the various
challenges they face on each hole of the course to help them plan their
shots to make "Par." We never met any blind golfers or came across
representatives of the various blind golf organizationsin the exhibit hall
so we could learn more about these groups and what they have to offer.
Like Erick Weihenmeyer's ascent of Mount Everest in 2001 having blind
golfers playing with their sighted counterparts on a basis of equality for
all the World to see what's possible for the blind to do if given the
opportunity to live the lives we want is an awesome idea!

Subject: [Sportsandrec] horse back riding
Good evening, I am looking to find a horse back riding type camp for this
summer that does not have the religious aspect. Also, that will allow me to
ride independently meaning not be lead by someone as I am an experienced
rider and just need verbal cues for safety as I do have some vision. Please
let me know if anyone has any ideas. I am in Florida. Thanks.
