[SportsandRec] Goal ball posture?

Hello there,
There really isn't a correct posture or specific way of defense that you
have to use. It all just depends on the player, preference, and team
defensive style. Now I can't speak for everyone, but this is the way I
usually defend.
My starting form is what is called "Post Position." I usually play
left wing, and when I'm preparing for a throw, what I'll do is be in
sort of an elevated stance. My shoulders face the other team, and my
non-dominant hand extends parallel above my head. My bottom arm, the
post, supports me on the ground. If the opposition is throwing bounce
balls, I rest on my hand, so as to be able to block higher trajectory
shots or dive on top of them. But if there's just a lot of normal, fast
throwing, I prefer to rest lower, on my forearm or elbow, so as to be
able to get down faster. My torso and hips remain off the floor, but the
knee on the same side of my body that my post arm is does touch. My
other leg is extended away from me, pointing toward the out of bounds
line. I like the knee touching the ground to be placed close to the end
of my wing line, and my extended leg poised and ready to come into play.
When I hear the ball, I do one of two things. If it's coming toward
the two, I'll use my top leg to push my body in that direction. My elbow
will slide out above me and my extended top hand will come down to meet
it. At the same time, my bottom leg locks into place below and behind my
top one, and my head turns behind my shoulder as I hip in and prepare to
block the shot. If the ball is coming at the one, then I use the arm I
have on the ground to push myself in that direction, and I repeat all
the previous dropping into form.
This is my defense, but others may have other strategies. I've seen
people stand so as to cover more court, but I don't prefer doing that.
Like I said, it just depends on the team and the defensive style.
I hope that was helpful.
