Hi Nella and all,
Wow, I did not realize Microsoft soundscape was going to be discontinued. 
That is sad to hear.

I'm not a big app user as I don't use a touch screen much. But I've heard 
this app was used and liked by so many blind people!

What did it do? I heard it helped with navigation using artificial 
intelligence and you could hear different sounds to locate things.

Anyone know if something in the works to replace it?

What GPS systems are there to help us or other tools?

With trails that wind around, I've not gone alone because I fear getting 
lost. I
would not hike alone for other reasons. But with flat trails, I've just not 
done it due to orientation concerns since along the trail everything seems 
the same along the path and there are few landmarks you can pick up with a 
cane. With low vision, nor do I see many landmarks either since all the 
trees seem to look the same.

I won't be outside much now due to the winter. But in April and beyond, I'd 
really enjoy being with nature walking on trails.

What I've historically used is Microsoft Soundscape, but it's no longer 
available for download and will no longer be operational at all in June. I 
have some programmer friends who are working on rebuilding it, but that's a 
heavy lift. I'll keep you informed. Otherwise I don't know of anything 
suitable for large, outdoor spaces.
