[stylist] Tragic endings?

Happy or sad or whatever, what matters in the ending is if it is a good
payoff for the huge investment the reader has made to spend the time to read
the story.

There are all types of readers. The book should end where it is appropriate
for that story. A happy ending should never be forced simply to get a happy
ending.
I personally like dark stories so a tragic ending is just fine with me.
