John and others- a vote is good. So how about you all voting over the next
seven days. And by next Monday we will have given the 90+ members of this
list a chance to place their vote.

Robert:

I disagree. Writing topics only are stale at best, with only a few sparks
of life before it's cold and sterile again. Thyat's no list.

My thinking is that if we want to have a list AT ALL, it has to have the
chatty elements. So far, all of our chatty stuff have always linked to
writing. So I don't see any problem.

I suspect that the real problem is that those who want writing topics only
really don't want a list, because they don't have the time to read the
messages. They get too many messages, they cry foul.

But, really, I can't imagine chatting along and then suddenly moving it to
another list, a conscious act, because something about nuts and bolts of
writing came up. Or if a writing topic generates a lively debate, we have
to move it to the chat list because it's too many messages and those who
don't want that are saying we're just chatting.

Do you really want a list? If so, guess what? This is a list and it's
exactly how a list behaves. If anyone doesn't like it, that person doesn't
like a list.

That's my opinion. I guess we can come to a vote at some point. But I'm
definitely voting against having two lists.

John

STYLIST members, I wish to revisit this idea of having two lists. One would
be STYLIST and it would be primarily for writing topics only. And the second
would be for all other and more chatty types of topics and I'd call it
Writers Chat. What we would have to do, is monitor ourselves in the light of
(besides doing the writing stuff on STYLIST and the chatty on the WC list),
but if for example on the chatty list, if you get into writing
issues/topics, then you get those posts back onto STYLIST. Again, we can do
this, give it a try, try and honor the rules and watch it so that neither
list goes stale or even dead.

So any discussion?
