Yes, image text does not work with text to speech technology, since as you
say text-to-speech technology reads the code. As for support for Braille
displays, I'm not sure but I believe it would depend on the text-to-speech
software itself.

I'm thinking that the principle of text to speech means the text is digital,
rather than in purely image form.  I mean whatever it is that reads the text
and reads it aloud cannot "'see" the pictures of the words, but just reads
the actual code.  So in theory it should be possible for the text to feed
Braille just as it feeds speech.  At any rate the Reading rights Coalition
should go on to request that it feeds Braille displays.  Otherwise, NFB's
support of Braille literacy would be lip service only, as far as this is
concerned.

It's probably not set up for it!   They were aiming at the hearing, sighted 
public, which is why most of the programs on Kindle were on screen menus, 
till someone said something to them.   But I don't know for sure.
