[stylist] Does anyone know anything about Freelance Writing Online

our local newspaper
www.ljworld.com
has regular bloggers, they're popular and they do make some money at 
it, though not much.
they have an annual "citizens' journalism academy" that trains a 
cleass of a dozen or so folks each fall.  this is a group they 
particularly like to have do freelance submissions, though they take 
free lance submissions from others and pay for them.  if you are part 
of the academy you get leads to write for them, so your work might be 
more likely to get published.
