kansas university has "K U on wheels" which operates a fixed route
system for students, a park-n-ride and a paratransit service. the
park-n-ride, you drive car to one of three lots, a frequent bus gets
you into the heart of the campus if you need to transfer to another route.
kansas university has I think 27,000 students, 24,000 faculty, staff,
and other employees.

kansas university is built on a short but steep hill (yes, silly, we
have them in kansas), so students appreciate the buses.

there are two student unions, something like seven high-rise dorms,
plus scholarship halls also. for many years, "K U on wheels was the
only bus system in Lawrence, until the city system started in 2001,
of course it covers much more of the community and doesn't die back
when classes are out of session. that's the system I helped campaign
to save in last november's vote.
when I attended University of California, Davis in the first half of
the 80's, I think UCD had a small route bus system, pretty
low-level. there was also a regional bus system one could catch to
ride into sacramento.
