Blind is a delicate word. I remember dealing with a friend of mine who
was convinced she was only "low vission." I did not argue with her,
but we began to spend a lot of time together, and I began introducing
her to NFB events, the fun stuff you know, chapter parties, student
meetings, one day when I was interviewing her for a story I was doing
in my school paper, she gave the quote, "I am more than blind." I will
admit I broke my interviewer pose and was thrilled. It takes time for
people to adjust that's all. It scares them to be "different," they
don'tunderstand that they really aren't all that "different," what
they don't understand scares them, but if your gentle, and their
willing, and you make it fun, in time they'll figure it out on their
own.
