Jim,
That was my experience also. But, I wonder sometimes if the bullying in 
part wasn't due to the fact that I was one of those in-between kids who, 
despite being legally blind,  was encourage to be sighted instead of 
being given the tools I needed. I'm not saying that children who are 
being given those skills don't get bullied, but there's something 
different about it when you don't even have the benefit of knowing that 
the skills you are learning will enable you to lead a normal life.
