[stylist] Preliminary Copyrights and Illustrators

Hi fellow writers,

We just returned from a five-week RV trip to California, Nevada and
Arizona. I'm hoping to be more able to follow the list this year, as I
am trying to do a better job of juggling my various priorities.

As some of you know, I've been working on a fantasy novel, which I would
estimate is about two-thirds done. One of our neighbors heard about it
and approached me about their adult daughter who is an artist. She's
been a bit depressed about not having had the opportunity to go to
college for her art. Her mother explained that she is a Harry Potter fan
which would make my novel right up her alley, and that perhaps I would
be interested in having her do some illustrations for my book. I'd llike
to help her out, and I am certainly going to need some cover art at the
very least. My question is: does anyone know anything about doing
interum copyrights? In other words, I'd like the protection of the
copyright before passing the book around, even though it isn't done.

Also, has anyone ever worked with illustrators? I'm sure including
pictures in a book will add to the price, but I'm thinking that with
computers and all, the additional cost may not be all that much.

Thanks,
Donna Hill
