I didn't get the impression that Beria is jealous of Talman. Maybe I'm
dense, but this is the first time it crossed my mind. Judith

Subject: [stylist] More on human-dragon relations (part of the new chapter
2)

I've made some more alterations to this part of chapter 2 (was chapter
3). I hope this will help explaining the diversity in human-dragon
relationships. Remember that Liza is besotted with her dragon. You are
supposed to get the impression that Beria is jalous of the way Talmon
treats Liza without Liza actually being aware of it yet. Do you?

"After a day of struggling to decipher lip patterns at school, it was
always a relief at the end of the day to go home to Talmon. The
wonderful language of Dramic with its telepathically transmitted
images is most ideal for the deaf.
As I got home I would visualise an empty bowl with a question mark.
"Fish and chips" I would sign. I couldn’t see Talmon from where I was
standing at the bottom of a steep climb, but I knew he could see me.
I visualised a fat and unhealthy looking girl with a spotty face.
"All right then. I'll have spicy bean pasties with Salad." (Talmon
has a freezer full of healthy meals for me. He warms them up and
serves them to me with plenty of salad.)
At that point a rope and harness would land at my feet. I would slip
on my safety harness, and scramble up the side of the building. I
would feel for the protruding bricks and heave myself. Talmon would
assist me by pulling on my safety harness.
As I neared the door, Talmon would reach out a long scaly hand to help
me up, his beautiful copper coloured skin had a lovely smooth texture
to it. I loved nothing better then to throw my arms round his
beautiful scaly neck, Panting from the energy I had put into my
climb.
Like most homes owned by dragons, the front door was situated on the
roof. In fact most other doors are also situated horizontally on the
ceiling, making it convenient for the dragon to swoop down to the
level below.
The floors themselves are enormous. They needed to be since
Talmon is twelve foot long and four foot high with long leathery wings
that are at least 24 foot in diameter.
The only acceptation to the rule is my bedroom and bathroom which are
much smaller then the rest of the rooms. They have small vertical
doors that Talmon is unable to fit through. There is an alternative
entrance for Talmon, through the roof but I didn‘t know about that
until later on.

I remember when Beria first brought me here, I stayed in my rooms
until I stopped feeling quite so scared of Talmon. I can’t remember
why I was ever so afraid, it all seems so silly now. Aunt Beria tried
to drag me out a few times, and told me that since Talmon had paid for
me, my place was to serve him and refer to him as my owner. She felt
it was quite ridiculous of Talmon to have provided me with a bathroom
when she felt a bucket at the corner of my room would have done. She
told me that if she had behaved like this with her ‘owner’ she would
have been part of his next meal.
Fortunately Talmon showed a lot more patience then Aunt Beria did.
He never pressed me to come out. He would just push my food through
the door. Waiting patiently for me to get used to his presence,
which eventually I did.
For the first few days, Talmon gave me whatever I asked for, which
mainly consisted of junk food. My aunts had a few words with Talmon
about that, so Talmon switched to healthy meals. Only using the junk
food to lure me out of my rooms. At the time I thought my aunts were
being really mean to interfere in my dietary choices in this way. As
a health conscious vegetarian I know better now. As wonderful and
considerate as Talmon is, he has no idea what human hatchlings should
be eating. I could have asked him for all sorts of junk food if my
aunts hadn’t put a stop to that.
Talmon has never ever treated me like a slave, in the way some people
claim that Dragons do. In fact he’s very keen to please me. He got
me a play area, a trampoline, a treadmill. He even took the trouble
of installing a Jacuzzi in the bath. He’ll provide me with whatever I
ask him for within reason. In fact aunt Beria is forever complaining
that Talmon spoils me.
I don’t understand why some people don’t share my love of the dragons,
and claim that we are being oppressed by them. If anything I’m
‘oppressing’ Talmon since I insist on cutting his nails.
Some people also whine about the lack of stairs in Darthrila, but
climbing up the side of buildings, is a good form of exercise. I think
such challenges are necessary in life. People must be really fat and
unhealthy in other parts of the world that are run by humans. Human
leaders are very corrupt. They make a mess of everything, squandering
a lot of the world’s resources on unnecessary items such as cars.
Due to all these cars the air in human-run countries is thick with
smog. This makes people cough and splutter all the time. I feel very
privileged to live in a country that is run by a dragon.

Far from being my oppressor, my beloved dragon, Talmon saved my life
on numerous occasions."
