[stylist] Donna's autobiographical writingRE:

Hi Bridget,
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this. I think you
hit on exactly what has been troubling me about the piece, though I
didn't know how to fix it. I kept thinking, "This sounds too much like
PR and not personal enough." Obviously, I can't fix it for Rick's usage,
but I have another one I'm supposed to be sending in for another
project, and I will take your suggestion and include something of a
scene within the narrative.

In terms of using it... First, I'm honored that you asked. I shall have
to contact Rick and ask him if it's OK. He may want you to include
something referencing the book, and I'm not sure when it's actually
coming out, so he may agree but want you to hold off a bit. I have your
address and will get back to you off list.
Thanks again,
Donna

For instance, when you address your childhood maybe give us a scene, like the section about playing piano. And maybe the conversation with your doctor, or something involving the music. Use action and even dialogue to give us a richer story. Otherwise, I think your writing is strong and powerful. It is a story many of us know, but it always nice to know that others have struggled before us.
