that is correct,
we only experience time in the present.  we worry about the future 
and ruminate over the past but we do it in the present.

but then, brain scientists still don't know how we get mind from 
brain, self-consciousness, consciousness itself, etc.
if you are interested in yor  consciousness studies Angela, my prof 
as an undergrad was Dr. Charles Tart.  google his name, he has a huge 
website with all kinds of altered states and hypnosis material.  I 
think he lives near stanford now.  he was my prof at U.C. Davis.
