[stylist] November is Novel Writing Month

Shelley,

Wow, they make a month for everything. *smile*

Many of my classmates and instructors have done the 50,000 word novel in
a month like you are talking about. I have not tried it, but I guess it
is a really good exercise for all writers. Helps get the creative
juices flowing and you can't stop because of "writers block." It is a
good pressure many say.

Turn on Track Changes with Control + Shift + E in MS Word. Then, if
using JAWS, make sure that Track Changes is turned on by using Insert +
V. The level of detail will be shown in a series of options.

Hi All:

These suggestions have been very helpful.
I know how to make track changes in a document but is there a
reliable way to read the track changes made by others?

Judith,

I'm not sure what you're asking exactly. For instance if you changed
the scheme from Clasic to Proofreading, just reset to Classic in like
manner. This might be more a drastic measure, but you could try
merging your settings from an earlier version if you had that one set
like your current one before you made the unknown change. If you do I
would recommend to copy your current settings/enu/ folder in case
you want to go back to what you have now for some reason. Did you
make the change in the Insert V area or in the config manager? Also
do you know what Speech and Sound scheme you are using? I could try
to duplicate it here, You might check your attributes just prior to
the paragraph that says "Normal" and then again when you are on it
to see what the differences are if any.

When I press jaws key plus F I get that the format is normal. Then,
when in
say all mode, I get the word normal all the time.

Hey all,

So I just stumbled upon a cool website sponsored by HarperCollins that
lets you upload your manuscripts for people to read. Subscribers rate
their favorite books, and the publisher takes the top 5 books for
publishing consideration each month. It looks like a popular website.
It's like the literary Pepsi Challenge. Give it a shot!

Dear STYLIST members

I received the following email, a notice of 'November being "Novel'
(book) month." And a contest. I went to the site and didn't get too far
into it --- looked interesting. See what you think! (Report back if
there is super info or other treasure there for us. Thanks

November is apparently 'novel' (book) month.

There is a web site for which writers can enter a contest. It is:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/

Perhaps someone can pass this onto the writers division list serve.

They may already know about it, but in case they don't.

Hey Guys, Nanowrimo.com has been around for several years. Every
November
they sponsor a challenge it's not really a contest. You write a fifty
thousand word novel and compete against yourself. When you are done you
upload the novel to the site which counts the words and then gives you a

certificate which you can print out saying you did it. One other month,
it
was March the last itme I looked, is editing month. The idea behind this
is
to write a novel with no editing, just a story from beginning to end, a
fifty thousand word novel, dont' worry about perfecting it just do it
and
then after you have the word count then work on the perfecting part. It
is a
challenge to see if you can actually write a novel. I did it once. I'll
go
look on the other computer and tell you what the titel was. I started to
do
it a second month but didn't finish though I still have the idea. I
think
the novel was called Forgiving Sky about a pilot rehabilitating after an

accident, or it was a mechanic. I don't know whatever happened to the
certificate. I learned about this in one of my history classes, some
people
formed a writing group and so I took the challenge. It was a lot of work
but
I did it. The novel is actually up on the storymania site which is at
the
end of my email. You have to look for the title called Forgiving Sky

think I have a right phone number. It is my understanding that you are
on board with printing Slate and Style and I need to give you some
information. Please email me privately off list at
queenofbells at roadrunner.com sorry for the delay it's been a mad house
the last couple of months. We're settling in now, i think, till next
time. Look forward to hearing from you.

Robert I am trying to finally contact Bridget I tried the phone number
that
you gave me and didn't have success. I'm so sorry it's just been nuts
around
here getting back on my feet but I'm praying for clearer weather. Slate
and
Style was sent out in Braille for the summer and by email, I think. I
need
to confirm with Lori on that one. Also I know Lori wants to no longer be
the
formatting editor and I thought you told me you had someone who was
willing
to do it. Did you say Laura Mining? There is a vague memory of this and
so
I'm apologizing for the delay and asking you to update me on this. As
editor
I should probably be doing this but I"'e been a little bit distracted.
Now
I'm working on Slate and Style for the Fall issue which should be out in
a
month. I think we're only behind in the print issue for the summer.
Perhaps
it's time for us to have a phone chat. I am available on Saturday
afternoon
or Sunday morning or afternoon if you have some time. If you call please
use
the 7145259632 number as the 869 number is no longer active.

Thanks a bunch.

Chris,

Yeah, it's not that I blame my family, but as a kid, I hated feeling
different. I just got tired of always being told no, which I hate, and
very few people ever tried to come at it in a positive way. It was
always you can't do this or you can't do that. Not what most kids want
to hear.

Thanks for reading.

Bridgit
