STYLIST: below is the text of a message that I have received. This new
author has several questions and I'm thinking that we collectively can
provide a complete answer-package. (The return address is at the bottom of
the text)
Hello:
I'm a totally blind adult interested in writing online article content to be
published on sites like ehow and associated content. I wonder if any other
blind writers have done this before, and if so, how they found the following
cites (fully accessible for writing, publishing, and getting paid):
www.demandstudios.com
www.associatedcontent.com
and for payment account
www.paypal.com
Note: may want to have a professional business website one day and wonder
how paypal works with accessibility for that too.
I've checked all three websites, paypal demandstudios and associated content
witht eh www.bbb.org better business bureau website and they all seemed to
have acreditation above an A- which seems good but I know they don't rate on
accessibility and I wonder if someone would know whether their tools and
other publishing and payment t writing/publishing editing, and all other
features are accessible, or if someone could check their accessibility for
all features for me and let me know.
Also, I've got a "Resource Manual" for individuals with visual difficulty,
their families and friends, and possibly professionals in its
design/copyright/publish stages. I wondered if you could provide information
about publishing options for formats such as large print with color contrast
for low vision readers, ebook format for computer-savy low/vision/blind
people, audio C.D. and/or cassette, rfbd recording, etc. so that it would be
in accessible formats as well as large print. I'm looking for an online
publisher such as www.createspace.com or www.lulu.com so I can make it a
publish/pay-on-demand product to prevent the need for inventory and so it
can be produced in the format needed by the customer/purchaser(s).
Also, do you know if copyright law requires an author/compiler to gain
"written permission/consent" from organizations/companies/agencies if things
like course notes the author has taken from their courses, e-mails they've
sent to the author, or mission/vision statements products/services they
provide and their company name/e-mail address phone number and fax number
are included as well as a paraphrased description of them by the
author/compiler is included in a copyrighted/published book? What about
things like "written permission from any instructions published on the web
by someone else either verbatim or paraphrased or e-mailed to the compiler,
naratives one-page in length submitted by the compiler and included without
compensating the narative author for time/work/expense to produce the
narative or send it via e-mail to compiler/book author, articles from things
like ehow.com and eatwell.com that are included verbatim or paraphrased for
things like how-tos and recipes, etc. Does written permission have to be
requested/gained, or can sources just be cited in apa format or combination
of both? Please let me know about all this above and any other info you
think I'd need to know about online content articles/websites and the
"resource manual I want to copy/publish/online and in other formats
concerning copyright law, publication, getting it marketed to the right
audiences, and getting paid/paying any profits determined by copyright to
those whose info I've included/paraphrased, and how to cite such sources in
apa format if necessary. Please include any/all
info/resources/websites/companies etc. you feel would be useful. Thank you
so much for your time/help/info/resources and for the effort it will take to
gather all this info. I want to make sure that anything and everything is do
is completely legal, avoids plagerism, and informs my audiences "resource
manual" the blind and those involved with the low vision/blind community,
and for any topics my online content may address to a general audience.
Thanks again, and have a nice day. Sincerely, Casey P.S. If you cannot
answer my questions, please be so kind as to forward this message to someone
who can answer them fully or provide me with contact information for that
company/organization/individual(s).
