Good evening everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted anything to the list. I know folks
are wondering what's up with the 2011 NFB Writers' Division Annual Meeting
Recording and when it will be posted to the Web site. Here's the scoop.

This past weekend marked a milestone for our chapter. We officially
launched our Braille class last Saturday morning. The response was
outstanding! Every chair in the meeting room was filled. We drew in blind
individuals, some blind youth and their parents and several teachers. Mary
will do a great job as lead instructor. We're still registering individuals
for future classes. I told our chapter president that if we continue to have
such rapid growth we may need to hold the class in the Alamo Dome. It's our
largest venue in San Antonio for public events such as sports and live
concerts. The Alamo Dome seats well over 50,000. With a Braille class of
such a size all the eyes of the World would
be fixed on San Antonio where Braille instruction is concerned.
The past few weeks were occupied with preparing for the launch of our
Braille class. Now that its up and running I can turn to other projects like
posting the Annual Meeting recordings to the Web Site. I need to knock out
several projects over the next few weeks and will begin working on it. If
there was more than one of me to go around things would get done faster. The
Braille class is a major chapter activity needing the attention of all of
our members.

We'll also be holding telephone gatherings similar
to those of the NFB Writers' Division. And like the Writers' Division there
will be special guests including our own Robert Newman and others to discuss
other activities and events related to learning and using Braille such as
our annual Writing Contest for blind youth and adults. Recordings of our
teaching sessions and telephone gatherings will be posted to our chapter Web
site allowing visitors to hear how we're teaching Braille here in San
Antonio.

Mary and I hope everyone is having a great summer despite the intense
heat. It's been one 100-degree day after another here in South Texas. We
can't wait for rain and the fall cooldown. All the best.

And her fetters we'll break, links that long are encumbered.
And the air will resound with hosannas to greet you
On the shore will be found gallant Irishmen to greet you."
