[stylist] Software

Hi,
Here's some advice that will help you put together basic text presentations in PowerPoint. Use this method, and you will be more efficient at making PowerPoint presentations.

I. Rather than PowerPoint, open Word.

II. Type in your presentation with the following things in mind.

1. . Heading styles become various bullet point levels in PowerPoint.

A. Heading 1 styles become the titles of slides.

B. Heading Styles below Heading 1 Style become various levels of slide body text.

III. Helpful key strokes.

1. Alt + Control + 1 through Alt + Control + 3 on the top row of the keyboard create Heading level 1, 2, and 3 styles.

2. Alt + Control + Right and Alt + Control + Left Arrows change heading styles. For example, if a line is at heading level 3, Alt + Control + Right Arrow makes it Heading level 4. Alt + Control + Left Arrow turns a Heading Level 3 line into a Heading Level 2 line.

IV. Do not put blank lines in your document.

V. The procedure is different for whatever version of PowerPoint you may have, but once you have your document created and saved in Word, import it into PowerPoint. Now, all you have to do is adjust the number of bullet points for each slide so that you don't have too many for each slide. Remember that the closer to level 1, the larger the font, and the closer to the maximum of 9 levels, the smaller the font. In my experience, I don't go below level 4 most of the time. And it's OK to continue points from one slide to the next if you need to do that.

Thanks.

Jim

Brad

There was a time when I did use PowerPoint. I created the slide-show or
PowerPoint presentation myself and JAWS worked okay during all phases. I've
not tried for a couple of years; now all my software is different and am not
sure they all work together like that earlier go-around. (I'm going to email
a couple of tech people I know and see what they say.)

Jim,

Yes I've got Office 2010. I expect then MS has various layouts you
can download. I'd never worked with templates in Word before but I
will look into it as I go here. Thanks for the feedback.

Brad
