poetry unless you either sold a lot independently, achieved some national
recognition or have a strong media platform -- like if a movie star wanted
to publish a book of poems. Still, you could try pitching it as a memoir,
but he said last night that memoirs also have to have a strong media

I did not hear poetry mentioned in the categories he considers, nor was it
in the three categories he does not accept. 
I have had it suggested that I call my manuscript a memoire, but it is still
poetry.
More reason for that tin cup! Ha.

Thank you for setting up last night's conference call with Jason Yarn. I am
copying his submission guidelines below my name for people who may have had

Those who are interested in finding an agent should check the Agent query
site:

It is quite accessible, though like  most sites, you will run into ads. You
choose your genre from either the fiction or nonfiction combo box (drop-down
menu) and hit Quick search. From the top of the page, the results are the
first heading. There's also an edit field if you already know the agent's
name or a book title. For fantasy, the page came up with results 1-8 of 160.

As always, do your homework, Being llisted here doesn't mean an agent is
reputable or competent. The site also has lots of accessible articles about
weeding out shady agents, writing query letters and so on.

Tonight we had 16 people in on the call. 

Jason Yarn was very informative and the recording of the call will be up (I
promise) in a couple of days, at the longest). There again, I can get anyone
their own copy --- just ask, it would be an MP3 file.

Jason encouraged those of us on the call to check out what it is that he
specializes in promoting, and if we have something that we would like him to
look at, send him a query letter by email, along with ten pages of your
proposed project, and we are to include in the subject line that we were on
tonight's call; he would give it a serious look. (If you weren't' on the
call, I'd still write him and put in your subject line that you are a member
of the NFB Writers' division; bet he'd give your query a look!)
