That sounds right, especially if there is a link to the guidelines section. Poets, take note--this is a good magazine to submit to!

Lori,
I'm wondering if this is the one you mean. I just Googled "poets and writers
magazine" and got:
http://www.pw.org/magazine

There seems to be a regular feature listing grants and contests. The ones
listed have 2/15/12 deadlines, but there's another link below for more which
may have things further out. There's also an article on the creative
process.

I couldn't find a "submission guidelines" or writers' guidelines" but
there's a link to "guidelines" which might be it. Don't have time to
confirm.

Poets & Writers is a writers' magazine. THey also sponsor some writers
groups. Yes, I'm pretty sure there is a website.
This is a subscription magazine in print. Not sure about whether they put
everything on the website, though. You can hear the magazine on Newsline for
the Blind. The magazine itself says to go to (866) 504-7300 or
www.nfbnewsline.org ... I'm not sure what that phone number reaches. For
the most part, Newsline is supported by each state, so I suggest the first
step is the NFB Newsline website. I'm still looking for the Poets & Writers
website, but the print is so darn small I can't seem to find it. Sorry!

What is poets and Writers?
What website is it from? Many sites don't have all the stories; they put the

stories in print only, but some is better than none. Yes, it seems like the
trend is for more education to be a professional writer or white collar
anything for that matter.

Where do you get poem a day from and is it free?

Bill,
Cute quatrain.
I got Poets and Writers for years when I could see. Now I get it on the web,
but it does not have all the articles, but news of all of there services,
contest deadlines, and much more. I also get "Poem a day, and keep a folder
of all those I think worthy.
I tend to not like poetry that is non-accessible, which many MFA's write.
Some are very accessible, but not the majority.
I think it is a club, which once you have that credential, there are certain
recognizable aspects to your poetry that qualify you to get teaching
positions and win awards, which serves to strengthen the market for MFA's.
It is very expensive to go this route.
After reading the poem-a-day, I always open the author link and hear the
background. Most have MFA's and many of the old traditional poets do not.
Happy for your interest in poetry.
Jackie

Good day again.

Following my discovery of the Poets & Writers mag I was inspired to write a
short verse.

I was reading an article on debut poets and noticed most of these folks have
an M. F. A. degree, which made me feel a bit out of my league. So here's a
short ode to those of us who don't have all the formal training but still
find creative inspiration.

I am of the rabble.

My words may sound like babble.

Sometimes they have the spirit of a rebel,

And stir the waters as if a tossed pebble.
