I long for summer too or at least warmer weather; we got that in common!

Chris,

First, Ha-ha! I laughed out loud at this post! Smile.

I will let you all in on a little secret: Each time I have had someone
read this, or had it workshopped during university, people always
attached deep meaning to it. The Christian ties come up the most, but
I've had quite a few interpretations. Here's the thing, when I wrote it
five years ago, it was the middle of winter and I longed for summer. I
absolutely hate the winter and cold. It was nothing deeper than that. To
be honest, though I like the piece and continue working on it, I have no
F-ing clue what it means, grin! I see how one could interpret this many
ways, but on my end, I was cold and wanted to be on a beach sipping a
pretty drink with an umbrella. Uh, actually, Brad's post was the closest
anyone has ever come to guessing my true intentions, ha-ha! Originally,
it ended with the narrator waiting for "him," whomever "him" is, but
later, I added the more pessimistic conclusion. I don't know why- I'm
drawn to the dark I guess. So, after so many people have attached such
deep, philosophical meanings to this, I now question all those times we
discussed during my classes interpretations of famous works. For
instance, 100 Years of Solitude is considered one of the best pieces of
magical realism ever written, but Marquez, who wrote it, has said it was
nothing more than a story with some private jokes/stories between
friends. Interesting. It's kind of cool though, like abstract art- the
art can mean anything and everything; it's all based on the perspective
of the viewer/reader.

So, I still am not sure why Sun Kissed has remained one of my favorite
pieces I've written, but I do think something is here. Perhaps one day I
will find the deeper meaning myself, smile.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter

Hey Bridgit,

Very nicely done. Not to sound smug, but I think the symbolism is fairly

obvious. The man, the sunshine, the love--all these things symbolize Ron

Paul as the president , who, the woman, America, is waiting for. Things
will
be wonderful while he's around, but when his second term is completed,
global climate change will leave us longing for his glory...
Or, maybe it's about Katy Perry and her love/divorce from Russell
Brand...
Or, I know, the woman is humankind, and the man is Jesus, and those who
embrace him feel like it's nothing but sunshine and cupcakes, although
there
will be cool spells, but then, one day when you need him most, he's not
there for you. Hoping for that eternal banquet, you only get a slice of
frozen water pie...

All kidding aside, your language in this piece is very good, very
evocative.
Like a lot of great poems I've read, I'm not sure what was going through

your mind in formulating it, but it's fun to ponder and see if, somehow,

there might be a piece of me in the piece.

Thanks for sharing,

chris
