Hi Nat,
I love surfing.  It's a very fun sqrt.
I started surfing in Kauaii, Hawaii when I was 6.  My surf 
instructor, Miguel, took a bit of time for me to learn the 
orientation of the surfboard, but on the grass.  When we went to 
the ocean, Miguel would keep his eye out for a good wave (the 
small ones we'd call "junk waves." When there was a good wave, 
he'd position my board to let me get it.  Sometimes I made it, 
sometimes I fell.
I have a new surfing instructor, who calls himself Uncle Mitch, 
but what he's been doing is when there's a good wave, just 
telling me to get into the stance by putting my left knee on the 
board and standing up.
It's deffinetly something that you want to do with somebody else.  
I've surfed with my dad a few times, but the waves are much 
better in Hawaii than California.  I'm going back this summer, 
and am very excited.
