[stylist] poem submission

Shawn,
Thank you for your comments, and for a bit of your history concerning
Arizona. Lynda also wrote that she had been in Arizona for some time, and
taught about different aspects of our state's history and culture.
After my son's disappearance, I rode horseback through much of the
Superstitions with an expert horseman. There was always the hope because of
all the stories about the "Lost Dutchman's Mine" and consequent
disappearances.
A book I never finished was, "In Search of Adam Scott." I still have my
notes, but many in cursive which nobody can read after all those years.
Jackie

Jacqueline

I just got around to reading your poem; great stuff. I've been out west
some (Mystery valley, Monument valley, and some of the parks in Utah. Once,
my grandparents drove their camper/trailer out to Arizona and stayed in a
park in Mesa, near Camelback mountain. I flew out there for several weeks
when I was in college.

I understand how the place can call to the spirit. However, I never did any
serious hiking out there. The spirit would soar but the body is an
increasingly fractured vessel.

Wishing you the best.

Shawn

Robert,
Thanks so much. I do write a lot of narrative poetry, and I believe it
should be accessible to non-poets, so your comments mean much to me.
Yes, Scott did die in his beloved wilderness in a search for some higher
meaning to his life. He had read all of the "Seth" books, and all of the
Carlos Castaneda's books, and "The Crack in the Cosmic Egg." His goal was to
reach a high point where he could look at Weaver's Needle in full moonlight.
I believe he made it.
He had worked for the forest service in the area for the protection of eagle
nests, and felt totally confident of his survival skills. He broke the rule
of hiking alone for a four-day trip, and it was June in the desert.

I like that type of poem. It for me reads more like a story; sad stuff (My
hope would be, the kid was doing something meaningful to him when he died).

Brad,
I tried this a while ago, and I think the wrong file got attached. Tried to
remove or stop. Not quite sure what happened. I'll try again.
Death in the Desert is the poem I wrote after my son's remains were found.
Your sensitivity is appreciated and I know you come by it honestly having a
brother who died.
And, Yes, Barbara, 80% of marriages fall apart after the loss of a child.
Mine did, after 26 years.
Poetry is a healing craft and helps all of us who write it to get through
anything, and the silver lining is somehow to start seeing the humorous side
of many things.
Jackie

Jackie and others with a similar loss,

I watched the suffering my parents went through with the loss of my brother.
I never want to find out, but the professionals in the world say there is no
greater greif than the loss of a child.
