And that is so true. That is definitely a poem for pondering.
Today I shall sit on our bench swing and see if the wind blows words down to
me for something new instead of the old ones I posted.

Here is a poem on the theme of this month's writing assignment "things that
make you cry"; sometimes what makes you cry shouldn't and sometimes things
that don't make you cry should (it's just the nature of the human beast).

Jacqueline-thanks for sticking up for the rest of us on the list. If I
don't participate in the prompts, its not because I'm apathetic, it's
because I'm busy or the muse hasn't struck.

I don't think that I am a "serious" writer if that means that writing is
your life. I'm a working stiff first, a family man second, and a
Federationist /writer/ other things after that. I am "serious" in that what
I want what I write to be good (or at least not obvious junk) and want to
improve my craft if I can.

With all that said, enjoy.

Crybaby
by Shawn Jacobson

He stands there after the gutter ball
Tears run down his fact and he howls
with hot rage and shattered pride
he was better than this.
The Devil gloats "you are a selfish bastard.
For you cry and complain over trivial matters."
But he cannot keep from crying
no more than the could keep from falling
on an icy sidewalk.
See he must take his seat again
with biting tears of shame.

I am a big boy now, grown up, responsible, mature.
I dare not own the boy I used to be the crybaby within.
The eyes no good for seeing are no good for crying now either.
Yet there are days when I through gutter balls on memory lane
when I remember and here the Devil gloat.
"You are a selfish bastard; for you can no longer cry for others,
but only for yourself."
And I must sit in shame with
the crybaby I was.
