Eve,
I have not yet read all of the responses on sestina's. Still, I want to
comment on this in terms of meditation. It is a meditation.
I am a practitioner of T.M. While I find it almost impossible to keep my
mind quiet even while saying my mantra, I find this stream of thought, using
calming words, almost as effective as that elusive quiet mind.
This is a lovely. While I do not understand the supposedly consistent line
length of the sestina, what you have done is a flowing piece with no
jarring in any part of using your six words.
Well done.
Jackie

Subject: [stylist] Breathe sestina
Hi all, My wonderful friend and mentor has taught me how to write sestinas.
I just finished my second attempt (the first is not being shared, sorry),
but I thought I would share this one with you all. I like the description I
was given of how they are layers, but because of the nature of this the
layers have all fused. That is also my perception of what happens during
meditation. Enjoy and Namaste, Eve
Breathe
With the world I am one.
My skin tingles with the touch of the wind.
I am comforted by the suns warmth.
The rustle of the grass is a beautiful silence.
Of Man, I hear no sound.
I am one at peace.
With the world I am at peace.
My existence is but one
sigh of a great sound
lost in the eternal wind.
My inner warmth
is lost in silence.
The moving leaves are a beautiful silence.
It is the music of my peace.
Through closed lids I see the suns warmth.
With time I am one,
But time travels with the wind.
Of Mans world, there is no sound.
Mans persistent intruders are but white sound
as backdrop to natures beautiful silence.
All intrusion is first carried away on the wind
Before it could be a disturbance to my peace
Blessed rain that has passed, helps Earth and sun become one
so that I may smell the warmth.
Scents of nutmeg, honey, and Earth bring warmth
to my senses as opening blossoms create a great sound.
With the lotus I am one
reveling in a beautiful silence.
Bees and birds are fused with my peace
as their music becomes part of the wind.
As if exposed muscles are massaged by the wind
All senses awake with warmth.
Body, mind, and soul are at peace.
An insect walks a stem creating a great sound
As a distant silence
Comes from grasshoppers jumping as one.
The Earth has become one with the wind
As the warmth is carried in silence
To become pure sound for my peace.
